Google's Panda Update
Google's Panda Update
Google introduced an update to their algorithm at the beginning of 2011 (and several subsequent updates) which became known as the "Panda Update".
What does this mean for your website's search engine rankings?
Your rankings would fall either across the board or for a certain section of your site (as opposed to on a page-per-page basis) if your site was "over optimized"; 'thin on content"; had duplicate content, or was generally low on what Google considers "high-quality content".
Even if you only had a couple pages of duplicate content - you were penalized. If you stuff your site with your target keywords, you were 'spamming', and subsequently downgraded in the results.
Furthermore, if your content was not 'original' and didn't bring some unique value to the web, Google dropped you and made space for sites that do.
At Meteorsite we have been approaching SEO in an organic and succinct fashion for over 12 years. Although certain elements of SEO have certainly changed since then, our policy of creating high-value content remains in place and continues to out-perform other SEO firms based on our natural and meaningful approach to site optimization.
If your website's rankings suffered over the past year, contact us today to find out if it was due to the Panda Update and to know more about how we can help you get back on top.
Tip for the DIY SEO:
Write your articles, blog posts and product descriptions as if you were teaching a friend - you don't want to waste your time or theirs telling them things that won't help them understand. You also wouldn't want to simply quote other people as your explanation, so you'd find a way to describe it to them in your own words and in a way that is honest and packed with information they can use. This one simple SEO tip should be at the heart of everything you post on your site, and your rankings will improve as a result. Hey, it works for us!
